It’s natural for one to develop grey hair when one ages, but some people may develop this problem at a very early age. While for some, this could be due to heredity factors, for a few it could be because of a health disorder. Even our lifestyle, hormonal change, unhealthy diet, insufficient nutrition and other such factors may be the cause for premature graying.

Although you do have different kinds of chemical based treatments that can curtail the graying of hair, it does pose a health risk and can affect the quality, life and growth of our hair and roots. Instead of going through such risks, you can take on some natural therapies to reduce or prevent your hair from aging before time. Here are a few Ayurvedic tips that can help you out in the most effective way.

Coconut Oil and Curry Leaves

Coconut Oil

For this hair pack, you would need a few curry leaves and some coconut oil (the amount of oil depends on the length of your hair). The processing time for this pack is around 45 minutes.

Take a saucepan, pour the coconut oil, curry leaves, and let it be on the fire for 5 minutes. After that, wait for the oil to cool down and then part your hair into small portions and apply the mixture on your scalp.

Once you have covered the entire scalp, use the reaming oil for the strands of your hair. Leave this mixture on for around half an hour and wash it with a shampoo and conditioner, which is free from sulfate. To get better results, you can also use a hot towel to wrap your hair or leave it overnight.  You can repeat this method at least twice or thrice a week.

Gooseberry (Amla) and Lemon powder


For this treatment, you need to take powdered Gooseberry, lemon and some water. Mix the ingredients together to form a paste and set it aside for an hour. After that, you can apply this paste on your head and let it be for at least 20 minutes and then wash it with water.

To get the maximum benefit of this remedy, it would be advisable not to use any soap or shampoo on the scalp. While applying the paste, make sure you put it only on the hair roots and scalp. You can do this treatment once in four days.

Triphala powder


Triphala not only helps to in the prevention of grey hair, but it also helps in stimulating the hair growth and repairing damaged hair. In this treatment, all you have to do is take a glass of water, mix a teaspoon of Triphala powder, and drink it before you sleep.

To make the powder, you would need Amla, Baheda and Harad. You then need to grind of all them separately and filter the powder so that it is free from any impurities. The ratio of the ingredients would be one Haritaki: two Bibhitali: four Amla. This means, that you would need 80 grams of Amla mixed with 40 grams of Bibhitaki and 20 grams of Haritaki.

Buttermilk and curry leaves


For this treatment, one cup of buttermilk and a handful of curry leaves will do the trick. It is also recommended to use a shower cap while doing this tip. The processing time is around 30 minutes. In this treatment, you need to make a smooth mixture by blending the buttermilk and curry leaves. Then this mixture should be applied to the scalp. Use the shower cap to cover your hair, leave it for half an hour, and then wash it. Follow this method two or three times a week and see the difference.
