Women the world over look towards celebrities as style icons, modeling their own style on theirs. UK clothing retailer Bonmarche has completed a piece of research that looked into which women in particular were the most iconic across different age groups. Women such as Meryl Streep, Jennifer Anniston, Helen Mirren, and Joanna Lumley were frequently reported across all age groups and countries.
Woman all over the United Kingdom want to look their best. This is no surprise, but it has nevertheless recently been made official in a survey that looked at which actresses were seen as the most inspirational in terms of their fashion sense. These actresses were inspirational and motivational, with women in the United Kingdom emulating them in an attempt to continue to look their best as they age. Furthermore, the study showed that women are influenced by different celebrities as they (the women and the celebrities) develop, and fashion changes with time.
Bonmarche was responsible for the recent survey, which looked specifically at women from England, Scotland, and Wales, who were all 45 and older. The survey aimed to discover which famous women provide others with inspiration in terms of dress style, healthy eating, and even physical activity.
The top 10 most influential actresses in terms of dress sense were revealed to be:
- Helen Mirren, cited in 19.2% of cases.
- Jennifer Anniston, cited in 16.3% of cases.
- Meryl Streep, cited in 14.5% of cases.
- Joanna Lumley, cited in 13.5% of cases.
- Elle MacPherson, cited in 10% of cases.
- Nicole Kidman, cited in 10.3% of cases.
- Julie Walters, cited in 8.1% of cases.
- Jane McDonald, cited in 5.9% of cases.
- Salma Hayek, cited in 5.4% of cases.
- Ruth Langsford, cited in 4.8% of cases.
Jennifer Anniston was particularly popular among women aged between 45 and 54, who said that her healthy eating regime, golden tan, and silky hair was something they envied. They also felt she looks approachable as a type of “girl next door”, while at the same time being very feminine and up to date. Meanwhile, Helen Mirren was liked due to her sophistication, which many women also aspire to be.
What the research also showed, was that women in the 55 to 64 age group had more mature tastes. This is evident in the fact that women such as Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep also made it into the top 10, as did Joanna Lumley. Joanna Lumley inspires women not just with her fashion choices, but also with her general attitude to life.
In the over 65 age group, Helen Mirren continued to be an absolute favorite, with 28.4% saying they looked up to her. In second place was Meryl Streep, and Joanna Lumley came in third.
A spokesperson for Bonmarch says that more and more women are happy to grow old gracefully, and that they are keen to remain influenced by other women who look great. She says:
“Looking fabulous at any age is easy and achievable – as proven by women such as Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep and Jennifer Anniston: they are in shape, dress for their body types and give off a healthy and confident vibe. It’s no wonder women across the United Kingdom take fashion cues from them.”
Meryl Streep’s sophistication is something that women all over the country clear admire, although Scotland is an interesting exception to this. In fact, in the over 65 age group, the top celebrity that women wanted to be like was Jennifer Anniston, cited in 27.8% of cases.
