Unhealthy foods that make your skin rough and dry

Unhealthy food that affect your skin

If we eat healthy, we stay healthy. In other words, our diet affects our body. So, it is very important to take a healthy diet for a glowing skin. A healthy skin reflects back the healthy regime you are following to maintain that lovely glow on your face. There are adverse effects of unhealthy diet on your skin. Let’s figure out which food items are not good for skin:

1. Sugar: If taken in excess it can affect your health badly. Problem starts with the process called glycosylation. In this process, the sugar in the blood attaches itself to the protein and stops its proper functioning. All body cells include the component collagen and it’s a vital component of our skin. So, it badly affects the skin. Sugar blocks the release of linoleic acid, a fatty acid that is helpful in curing skin disorders.

2. Fats: An excess of sugar and carbohydrates change to fat in our body during the digestive process. Fat decreases the oxygen supply to the skin and makes it dull.

3. Dairy products: These contains androgen hormones that transform into dihydrotestosterone commonly known as DHT. It increases the production of sebum in body. It is believed that risk of skin breakouts increases tremendously with intake of dairy products, whereas yogurt is an exception in this case.

4. Alcohol: The excess intake of alcohol dehydrates the skin and it becomes rough and dry. It can also cause wrinkles and acne on skin.

5. Carbohydrates: Cakes and sweets are considered as refined carbohydrates. They lack vitamins and essential nutrients. If you consume food rich in white flour and sugar it will increase androgen production. It enhances the production of sebum and that leads to the acne problem on skin.

6. Sodas and caffeine: Sodas and caffeine have been known to give a dead and dull appearance to your skin. It is hard to keep a balanced blood sugar level, and if not maintained well then it could be harmful for your skin. Sodas contain very high amounts of sugar and unhealthy non-natural sweeteners and a lot of caffeine. Any drink with high amount of these substances can cause skin irritations. Sodium benzoate which is present in sodas causes many skin problems. If you think dietary sodas would be a better option, then it is a misconception as dietary soda has aspartame and sweeteners, which make your heart itch for junk food. Caffeine is an addictive as it increases anxiety. Low blood and oxygen content in skin makes it dull and lifeless.
