15 Tips to get rid of flyaways

Flyaways

Dry flyaway hair is a common problem amongst women. It can result from over shampooing, swimming, hair coloring, straightening, over exposure to sun and so on. Here are a few tips to deal with flyaways or static hair.

1. Blow brush

Get a natural bristle blow brush or an economical brow brush and steam it with hair spray. In a slow and gentle move, scrape the brush along the hair part that needs to be tamed. This works excellent because the tiny bristles of the brush repair the flyaways very fast and the hair spray sets them in place.

2. Conditioners

Conditioners help in lubricating the hair and sticking the cuticles back to the streak. Add a spoonful of mayonnaise to a squashed ripe avocado and massage this into your scalp, leave it on for 15 minutes before you wash. Use a mild shampoo to give your hair a soft shiny look and to prevent flyaway hair. Wind and harmful UV rays of the sun can damage your hair as much as it can damage the skin. You could protect from this by wrapping a scarf around your hair.

3. Shampoos

To battle flyaway hair and promise a right protection against nuisance flies, use shampoos that contain anti-static formula. These products are easily available in every drug store. Shampooing on every other day not only saves your money on toiletries, but also helps to prevent flyaway hair. Make sure to give your scalp a good massage on the days you are not shampooing. Your scalp gets rejuvenated through proper rinsing. You can still do this even if your hair is oily.

4. Body lotion

Another great alternative is to put a little body lotion or a bit of cream on your palms, rub them together and dash them over the flyaway hair. Make sure to use a small amount of cream to avoid your hair look greasy.

5. Diet

Consume well balanced diet that includes green leafy vegetables, whole grains, sprouts, pulses, meat, fruits, milk and milk products which nourishes the scalp.

6. Water

Drink plenty of water every day. Limit the intake of tea and coffee. Avoid artificially flavored beverages, alcohol and caffeinated drinks.

7. Brush or comb

Do not brush or comb your hair while it is still wet. This could weaken the hair roots leading to hair loss and flyaway hair. Dry hair completely and then untangle the knots with your fingers.

8. Dryer

Running a dryer sheet through your hair is a quick and simple remedy to get rid of flyaway hair. This method reduces the static electricity and you can tame your wild locks as well.

9. Combing hair

Always use good combs and wooden brushes. As they are natural, they eliminate and prevent static and split ends and improve the blood circulation to the scalp thereby leaving you with a beautiful and healthy hair.

10. Serum

Use silicon based serum as this keeps the hair smooth, shiny and flexible and tames flyways.

11. Bottle spray

You can try to dampen your hair. Wet your hands slightly and run your fingers through your hair. You can also use water spray bottles and spray water on your hair especially on areas with flyaway strands.

12. Oil

Heat a little almond, coconut or olive oil and massage this into your scalp from tips down to the roots. Leave it on overnight or at least for an hour and wash off with a gentle shampoo.

13. Frizzy hair

You can buy a shampoo designed to tame your frizzy hair. Some shampoos take away your hair’s natural oils thereby preventing static. Jojoba oil can be applied to your hair after using a shampoo that washes away your hair’s natural oil.

14. Maintenance

Brush your hair 3-4 times a day to prevent it from knots and do not tie your hair too tightly.

15. Hair styling products

Work on your hair’s cuticle by smoothing it out. If your hair has too much flyaway it means your hair cuticles are jagged and dry. End your shower with blow drying or a cold water rinse to seal the cuticles. To get rid of flyaway hairs make use of hair styling products with labels like ‘shine’ or ‘illuminate’ on them.
