5 Tips to dye your hair red

Dyed red hair

Hair color can add vibrancy to your looks. Red amongst other colors can add brightness to your face. Red hair comes in many shades, so even if you are not wild enough to fancy a neon red, you can go for the classic, muted, more natural shade of red like Julianne Moore’s natural red hair. Here are a few essential tips to keep handy while dyeing your hair red.

1. Which shade should you go for?

The shade you choose has to be one that suits your personality and lifestyle. Deep burgundy, bright copper and burnt orange are some of the most popular shades of red hair, especially because they occur naturally. However, there are many other shades available. It is best to ask a hair stylist to suggest which particular shade would suit you the most. However, if there is any particular shade you find yourself attracted to, just go for it. You have to have guts to carry your red locks, so just go for the one you like best.

2. Go natural

While it is best to get a stylist to do the hard job, you can also go for the much cheaper option of coloring your hair by yourself. A great natural dye would be henna. A pack of henna is easily available at any supermarket. Some brands of henna even come with different shades of natural dye. However, henna dries the hair out, so be prepared to get extra deep-conditioning treatments.

3. Go chemical

You can, of course, buy a pack of chemical hair color. There are many brands and many shades, so pick whichever you like best. However, do invest on a quality product. Your hair is precious and fragile, and as you apply color to it, be prepared to face any negative effects that it may have.

4. Don’t paint the town red!

Most importantly, while doing it yourself, remember to have your bathroom area well protected. Red liquid hair color has very strong pigments in it and any stains left will be difficult to remove. Cover everything with disposable paper or cloth. Any stains, including on your own skin and clothes, should be washed off immediately. Don’t let anything dry. The stain may simply refuse to go and you will end up with a mess.

5. Maintain

The next step is maintenance. As soon as your hair starts growing, you will have to keep dying it. Red doesn’t blend as naturally as blond and brown do, so if you are not tired of the red color, keep dying. Also, use the same product so that the same hue is maintained. Two shades of red don’t really go!
