NY Fashion Week reveals makeup trends for S/S 2012

Makeup for S/S 2012

An exciting part of the fashion week, is to lookout for the latest makeup trends worn on the runway. While most trends spark off from the runway, not all looks on the ramp are ‘wearable’. Nevertheless, the New York Fashion Week with the showcase of S/S 2012 collection, had startling makeup looks to showcase. Here are a few with their DIY versions. Read on and sport the Runway look!

1. Eye brows

We are all aware that eye brows are very important as they frame our eyes and adds a dimension to he face. This spring, eye brows are kept large and preferably bushy. It is up to you to play them up and keep them well groomed or to keep them evenly lightened. Most models dressed up by expert makeup artists Tom Pecheux and Altuzarra sported brushed up eye brows, darkened with eye brow pencils and black/ dark eye shadows.

DIY: Just grow your eyebrows out if they are thin and keep them brushed up. The point is, never ignore them!

2. Splashes of bold color

Spring gives you the freedom to play with bold, clean colors. Classy favorites this season will be soft coral pinks, nudes, lavenders and reds. The most striking color trend we have noticed this season is the come back of red. The classy lip color is once again a hot trend. Red is now seen even as eye shadows! You can use all kinds of red for your lips : from dark chocolate red (as was seen with Donna Karren) to matte, velvet and glossy reds. The pop art red can be noted as a favorite. Bold colors like deep purple, lavender and powder blue have been used sparingly for lip color. Another interesting eye trend is the cat eye. Cat eyes are ‘in’ this season. Modern, playful, heavy cat eyes were spotted. Color eye liners are also something to go for this season !

DIY: For the Runway look, use MAC basic red pigment. This mixed with a MAC pro lash mixing medium was used to create bold and bright reds. All you have to remember the rule of playing up only either your eyes or your lips!

3. Pastel Washes

Washes of pastels or soft colors was another noted trend. Glittery metallic sheen eye shadows were hot on the ramp. Other colors you can take up are pastel and coral pinks and peaches. Models at Eli Tahari were on soft metallic blends for eye shadows.

DIY: Create a warm glow to the skin and most importantly, eyes. Even soft metallic gold eye shadow has made a come back.

4. Layers of color

Layering color on color is in vogue this spring. Charlotte Tilbery models were spotted wearing layers of pink and burgundy to gives off the power play vibes! Pucker up lips will get thumbs up this season!

DIY: Use both dark as well as light colors to give a new dimension.

5. Multiple textures

It isn’t just all matte alone any more. This season will see a lot of mixing of textures like matte skin coupled with glossy eyes and lips. Models at Rad Hourani scream ‘ androgyny alert! ‘ with a new trend

DIY: Mattify the skin and then adding a touch of gloss/ shine to strategic points like cheekbones, brow bones, bridge of the nose etc.

6. Perfect Skin

As ever, perfect skin is a must- have on the ramp. The ‘Athletic’ well put up woman look has made a come back this season. Most ramps features models with very hydrated, spotless skin that is smooth and acts as a perfect canvas.

DIY: Invest in a good quality concealer and foundation. Blending is the key. Blend blend and blend to achieve the desired effect. Also smudge the foundation with a sponge for the soft smooth look. Don’t forget to moisturize your skin well before you start with the foundation or concealer !!
