This recipe is beneficial as the coconut cream nourishes and rehydrate dry, damaged hair and the yoghurt acts as a deep cleanser, soothing itchy scalp and dandruff. This recipe softens your hair and conditions it for a healthy natural sheen.

DIY

Ingredients

a. 2 tbsp coconut cream or 1/4 block coconut cream

b. 2 tbsp extra virgin coconut oil

c. 3 to 4 tbsp natural yoghurt

Procedure

a. In a bowl, place the coconut oil or cream.

b. Over a pan of hot water, melt the bowl containing the coconut or melt or 1 minute in a microwave.

c. Gently stir in the room temperature yoghurt into the coconut mixture.

d. Comb out your hair properly and free of tangles.

e. Apply to the hair from the root tip upwards in sections until you cover the whole head.

f. If you have long hair, put it up in a loose bun and secure with pins.

g. Cover hair with shower cap.

h. Leave it on for 45 minutes.

i. Rinse out the hair thoroughly.

j. Shampoo off with a mild and natural shampoo for best result.

2. The caramel treatment

This has the ability to hydrate the driest and roughest hair textures and softens it. Those who have done a relaxer to their hair can stretch hair for longer periods on this treatment. For those with natural hair can benefit as it will make hair more manageable and tangle free. The caramel treatment stays up to 4 weeks and can be reapplied. It has good moisture retention as well as takes less heat for straightening natural hair. The combined benefits of the goodness of bananas, honey, molasses and olive oil restores hair to a healthy radiance.

DIY

Ingredients

a. 6 tbsp of honey

b. 2 to 3 overripe and soft bananas

c. 3 tbsp molasses treacle

d. 6 tbsp olive oil

e.1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

f. 1 tbsp wheat germ oil or you can use any other natural oil of your choice

g. 4 to 6 tbsp of water

Procedure

a. Apart from the water, put all the other ingredients into a blender and process until smooth.

b. Add the water bit by bit if mixture looks too dry.

c. Sieve the mixture through a siever to remove any banana bits.

d. Pour the mixture into a saucepan and stir constantly on medium heat. This will thicken the cornstarch.

e. If mixture is too runny, add a bit more cornstarch.

f. If mixture is too dry, add a bit more water.

g. The consistency of the caramel mixture should be like a thick batter. If it is too thin, it will run off and drip from the hair.

h. You can pour the mixture into a container. Unless you have long hair, this preparation can last for two applications.

i. Section off your hair into 3 or 4 parts and clip it.

j. Apply the mixture in sections starting from the root part first.

k. Once the roots are covered, then section by section apply on the rest of the hair length.

l. Once all sections are covered then cover hair with plastic cap and leave on for 2 hours.

m. If hair is too dry then sleep overnight with the application.

n. Wash off hair with sulfate free shampoo and deep condition it.

DIY

Ingredients

a. 1 egg

b. 1/4 cup plain yoghurt

c. 1/4 cup mayonnaise

Procedure

a. Beat egg till frothy and white.

b. Add mayonnaise and yoghurt to the egg and blend it by stirring.

c. Dampen hair with water and comb through to make it tangle free.

d. Section off hair into parts and apply from root upwards section by section till hair is completely covered.

e. Cover with shower cap and leave on for 20 minutes.

f. Rinse off thoroughly with cold water.

g. Give a final wash with mild shampoo.
