Makeup is best done with the right tools. The key to good make up skills lies in the different brushes that are used to highlight, conceal and enhance certain areas of the face and even the body. Along with tools, identifying your face shape and accordingly working around with bronzers and blushes may help with contouring and highlighting the face areas that need sculpting. Listed here, are five types of basic brushes that can enhance any look, from neutral to an all out bold, with just a little effort.
1. Foundation Brush
The most important step to a good make up look is getting the bast right. The key is, don’t over do it and don’t under-do it. Find a foundation color that is closest to your skin tone and with a good foundation brush, dab on some on all parts of your face first and then with circular motions, cover your full face with it. Find a brush that is flat and has longer bristles with a tapered end.
2. Concealer Brush
The second important step is to conceal any discoloration, blemishes, and scars on the face. The concealer is always a little darker in color than the foundation and conceals any unwanted patches on the skin. It gives a flawless finish to the face.
3. Eye Shadow Brush
Go for an all neutral look or coordinate the colors of your outfit with your eye shadow. A very important detail to keep in mind though, is to not over coordinate or it may leave you looking washed down or over done. A fluffy eye shadow blending brush helps blend in all the harsh lines of the different shades used on the crease, eye lid and the outer corner of the eye. Remember, the key to perfect eye shadow application lies in good blending.
4. Lip brush
To sum up the pretty face and eyes, use a very narrow lip brush to reach out to all the edges and lip line giving you a fuller lip rather than a patchy half done lip. A lip brush works well to cover the entire lip with a solid color.
5. Eye liner brush
Complete the look with a dash of mascara and some eye liner. Go bold with a colored one, or go conventional with a black one. There are quite literally a ton of ways to use an eye liner brush to create different types of looks. You can try a 70’s winged eye liner, the cat eye look, and even a double winged one. The magic is in its slanting brush line that helps ease of movement and leaves scope for style.
Some other brush types are blusher brushes for highlighting cheek bones, bronzer brushes for sculpting face and body, kabuki brushes for buffing the final powder etc.
Useful tip
Remember to wash all your used brushes once every week with a mild brush cleaner and be sure to reshape them before leaving them for drying so you don’t distort the original shape. Dirty brushes are hide outs for bacterial and fungal growth which may lead to infections and even some serious skin damage.
