3 Tips to keep dirt out of nails

Clean and tidy nails

Do you travel often to and fro, is gardening your hobby, or you are working in the midst of grease soaked machinery? All these activities do have one thing in common – they give you dirty and murky nails. Discoloration, stains and the yucky dirt in and around your fingernails looks awful. This can be quite an embarrassment in social settings. It makes you look like someone who doesn’t understand basic personal hygiene. But dirt, grime, and grease gets stuck to your nails very easily. This mud is stubborn and leaves marks on your nails giving them a soiled look. Here are a few tips to battle out this predicament.

1. Spruce up wisely

Nail beauty is very important, but if you are a heedful fashionista you will keep the health and hygiene of your nails also in mind. You can spend a lot of time manicuring and polishing your nails. They will shine sparkling clean first but will become dirty again, especially if your lifestyle requires you to be outdoors and on the move. You can sustain your squeaky clean look for longer by adopting a few easy tricks. Always keep a brush handy in your bathroom.

Just dribble some soap on the brush and give a quick scrub to your nails. Trim your nails and don’t let them grow very long. Pay special attention to the corners which are even more susceptible. You can also file them from time to time to prevent dirt from accumulating underneath. Apply a top coat of nail varnish or polish over nude nails or enamel. This will keep them from staining and soiling.

2. Prepare to fight the muck

If you work in grease or wet soil, you will need extra protection. It is better to gear up before going into the filthy surroundings as cleaning after is much harder. Take a bar of soap which is dry, keep it in a safe dry space and not in your bath area. Grate with your nails on the bar until the flecks soap are lodged into your nails. Make sure they are settled in tight and not collapsing loosely. This will easily prevent earth, lubricant, or any other type of dirt from settling underneath the nails. For added protection, coat your cuticles and top of the nail with a layer of petroleum jelly. Even if dregs of waste stick to them, they will come off easily in one wash.

3. Handy Gear

If you travel long distances or work in murky conditions then don hand gloves. They will protect your hands from soiling and staining. Match up leather, cloth, or latex gloves with your outfit. If you work with soil or greasy oils then go out to face the mire only after wearing rubber gloves. But rubber gloves can make your hands sweat, so you can also pick cloth gloves. Cloth, on the other hand, can get wet really fast allowing dirt and grime to seep in. Make sure that the gloves fit you well. You can also try attaching acrylic or gel nail extensions.
