3 Summer hair care tips

Humidity and unmanageable hair

Summers can wreak havoc on your hair and can make them dull, lifeless, and straw like texture. Excessive heat and exposure to sunlight can dry out your hair and can inhibit your hair’s natural ability to retain moisture. The harmful UV rays of the sun can fade your hair and can create split ends. Keep your hair looking good by adopting the following simple tips in your beauty routine.

1. Avoid styling products

When it is hot and humid, avoid using styling products. To combat the ill effects of sun, rather, try to apply a moisturizing hair mask once in a week. Besides your hair also needs protection from UV rays. It will also help you avoid color fading and will help maintain glossy hair. Avoid blow dryers, strengtheners, and curling irons and other styling products.

2. Avoid frizz

Extra moisture in the air is the main culprit behind frizzy hair. When your hair is dry it tends to soak moisture from any source, including air. This moisture from air causes the hair to swell, creating frizz. This is the reason why women with thin and fine hair find find it difficult to maintain their hair during hot and humid months whereas women with thick and curly hair find their hair quite frizzy as compared to other months. To tackle this problem, use an appropriate shampoo and conditioner. For fine hair use a shampoo and conditioner meant for fine hair. You can also use a volumizing spray at your roots. As a touch up, try a dry shampoo sometime during the day. Spray the dry shampoo on the hair roots only as this will add volume to your thin hair. If your hair is thick and tends to frizz than use silicon based serum. If the frizz comes back during the day than don’t be afraid of using a smoothing cream or even a dollop of hand lotion. For curly hair, use a frizz fighting gel before you scrunch your hair. The thin coat of serum will act as a barrier against moisture of the air.

3. Swim with care

Swimming in a pool or ocean can be very refreshing and a great work out during the summers but it comes with a huge price. Your hair tends to lose its natural beauty when you swim without taking care of your hair. The salt water of the ocean or the chemicals of the pool dry out your hair, strip off the color and turn the color of blond hair into a greenish ugly color. For defying this, always wash your hair with fresh water before going for swimming. This will ensure that your hair absorb fresh water and retain minimum of salt water or chemicals of the pool. You can also apply conditioner to your hair before going for swimming as it will keep your hair soft and supple and you can roll your hair into a bun. After swimming, make sure you wash your hair with a shampoo to remove the chemical or salt build up. Besides, when not swimming and enjoying the pool side or the beach, ensure that you wear a scarf on your head to ward off the evil effects of the sun rays. You can pull your hair back in a bun and then can cover your head with a scarf by tying it at the nape of your neck or get creative and tie the scarf in some fun ways to avoid the harsh sun rays.
