Modelling, is considered as a lucrative profession these days since it promises fame, glamour and money. You could travel to exotic locations at the same time. However, these can be achieved only if you are a successful model. Walking down the ramp with countless cameras clicking is truly a star like experience. However, there is a dark side to this sizzling career too. There are certain instances when even a veteran model loses balance and falls while doing catwalk down the ramp. Nobody wants a beautiful damsel to get hurt. Nevertheless, when such an incident occurs, shock waves engulf the spectators. All wait with baited breaths to see how she handles such a macabre. In case she maintains reticence and manages to get on her feet quickly, the show is saved for the day! Or else, she might be completely taken aback and lose her calmness. Let us look at this compilation of incidents of the top seven runway mishaps.
1. Abbey Lee’s Fall and Karlie Kloss’s Train at Rodarte, Fall/Winter ’08/’09
In September, 2008, before Prada, it seemed as if Rodarte had the most horrible season in New York. Australian model, Abbey fell flat on her face while making an exit. During the showâs finale, it was required that Jourdan Dunn, Karlie Kloss and Kasia Struss pose in their chiffon gowns. These models misjudged their timings and stopped abruptly on the runway, thereby trying not to stumble on each other. In spite of that shaky scene, Sasha Pivovarova gracefully led the line out from the wings. It was a close call.
2. Lekeliene Stange opening at Marc Jacobs, Spring/Summer ’07
You might have often wondered why these models just don’t get rid of their troublesome footwears! They do that when they have presence of mind and that is exactly what Dutch model, Lekeliene Stange did. While walking down the tricky and snake like ramp, she realized that the new flats of the sandals were slipping. The paint made it impossible for her to walk. At first, she tried to readjust the shoes while walking. Since the shoes caused her tremendous pain, she decided to kick them off and continue walking. Now, thatâs a site!
3. At Prada, Spring/Summer ’09
This event is worthy of being mentioned, simply for the number of mishaps that occurred on the ramp. Prada featured little black sockets which were knitted. They were attached inside the shoes. It was getting very difficult for the models to walk because the socks started sliding along the smooth leather. This led to a series of falls, as the models tried their best to tip-toe on the ramp. Some of them fell more than once.
4. Karen Elson closing the show at Zac Posen, Fall/Winter ’08/’09
The crazy heels of Karen Elson were to blame for this mishap. She practically sank on the ground. However, credit should be given to Caroline Trentini who helped her up. Also, we should not forget P.Diddy who broke rank to offer help. Karen Elson remained composed and calm. She carried herself with charm and grace.
5. Monika Jagaciak
Very often, staying calm and flashing a smile can straighten out a lot of things and save the day. This is precisely what Monika Jagaciak did. The pretty model was dressed for a catwalk when she slipped and fell on her backside. This incident took place in 2009 show for Herve Leger by Max Azria. Though Monika was hurt, she got on her feet with a smiling face and completed her walk.
6. Elise Crombez
The culprits for this unfortunate incident were probably the aviator glasses that she was wearing. Or else, her manner of tight walk on the ramp gave her away. In the spring of 2007, Proenza Schouler was a bit carried away by her stunning performance. As she went on to present herself, the fact that she was wearing sky high heels escaped her mind. She twisted her ankle and down she went!
7. Kamila W. at Vivienne Spring/Summer ’07
Vivienne Westwood is known for styling up her models with 9″ bondage fetish platform heels. This has been the reason for quite a few professionals to trip and fall. One of the most notable incidents was that of Naomi Campbell. She experienced a terrible fall and was in acute pain. It was a shame to see that nobody came to her aid. However, she got up and carried on her ramp walk.
These are a few mishaps, which have slightly shaken the tinsel world. What matters is the grace with which these beautiful women carry on, in spite of such unforeseen accidents, thereby winning rounds of applause.
