The Float Lounge and Seaweed SOK Spa take the spa experience up a notch

Owned by Missy Finlay, the Seaweed SOX spa located in Newport Beach is the only spa in the region that offers visitors the chance to indulge in some ultra-posh seaweed therapy. The treatment is basically derived from the century old seaweed based detoxification tradition used in Ireland to counter the harsh effects of long winters. A typical session at Seaweed SOX begins with a 20-minute sauna sessions inside the spa’s infrared sauna room which is used to kick start the detox process and open up the pores.

Next, visitors are settled down into a warm bath that comprises of hot water and as much as five pounds of brown seaweed. The soak lasts 40 minutes. Finlay claims that the effects of the therapy can be felt for hours after the visitor has left the spa. Thanks to the essential amino acids of the brown seaweed, the therapy restores damaged, dry skin and even cures skin ailments like eczema.

The other luxuriant spa experience in the region is offered by The Float Lounge located in Laguna Beach. The day spa is run by holistic life coaches Rosanne Ramirez and Jeff Brion and offers visitors a deep relaxation experience apart from the Epsom salt therapy. The spa experience at The Float Lounge begins with a shower to help remove the traces of toxins and cosmetics on the skin. Visitors are then led into a 5’ x 9’ enclosed tank that is filled with ten inches of water.

The water in each tank is mixed with 1,000 lbs of top-quality Mineral Epsom Salt that heightens the density of the water which causes the body to float on the water. Visitors have to wear ear plugs to avoid any water entering their ear canals though the system doubles up as a noise-cancelling system which further accentuates the process of relaxation. Essentially a sensory deprivation experience, the therapy helps customers relax and just be with themselves while their skin benefits from the detoxification provided by the salt water.
