Would a new small round brush hair dryer be suitable for short hair, than a fat ceramic vent brush?

I have a fat ceramic vent brush which I am using for last few months to dry my long hair, however, I have just gone short this time, and ever since I have been noticing that singes appear in my hair. I want to know from some hair expert whether it is because of the heat on my hair, or is it due to the kind of brush that I am using as hair dryer! A friend has advised me to buy a new round brush hair dryer to dry and manage my short hair, but I am a bit apprehensive of not using my hair dryer now, which I bought for my long hair earlier. I would really like to get some suitable advice in this context, so that I can decide the best kind of brush hair dryer for myself. Thanks.
