While packing up for a trip, makeup bag is a necessity. Nonetheless, be clear with the fact that you cannot pack all your cosmetics when headed for a trip. Plan ahead and pack smart when traveling. Here are a few tips to get you started with the packing of your beauty travel kit.
1. Remember 3:1:1 rule
The perfect bag is essential to carrying your precious beauty items. While packing your beauty bag, follow 3:1:1 and you will be sure to carry everything that is required. With the airport-governed rules and regulations, the passengers are required to stick to the 3:1:1rule. It means 3.4 ounce bottles or less, 1 quart-sized clear and plastic zip top bag to hold the bottles, and 1 plastic bag per passenger. If you have longer bottles of liquid then you must put them into your checked baggage.
2. Consider your destination
Are you headed to a tropical locale? Select products that can withstand the heat and humidity. You can probably do without the heavy foundation and rich creams. If you are attending any parties or formal events on the trip, be sure to bring your evening makeup, that is, darker eye and lip shades with a bit of shimmer.

4. Sunscreens are essential
Another must have! Vacations are fun time but sunburns and skin cancer are not. So donât forget to pack the ultimate vacation essential, the sunscreen. Please make sure to always protect your face with sunscreen. It will not only avoid a bad sunburn but also future wrinkles. Many of us have the type of skin that prohibits us from using just any old face wash, so it is worth brining your favourite product in smaller size.
5. Shampoo, conditioner and perfumes
If you have a favourite perfume that you just can’t live without, this is the time to do some research and find a bottle under that recommended size. Also carry your shampoo and conditioner as it is important to take care of your hair even though you are on a vacation. If you canât live without your hair spray find it in a travel size. You can carry any one of these: hairspray, gel or mousse.
6. Medicines
Always have your basic headache medicines or painkillers ready, just in case. Some people may also want to carry a decongestant. Also donât forget to have you daily medicines handy if you are on a long flight. Rosebud salve is an awesome product that will work as a lotion, lip balm or even as an ointment for a dry nose.
7. Tissues and sanitary pads
If you donât have them you need them. Find a travel-size pack of tissues and drop it in your purse. You never know when you might need them. Sanitary pads are also equally important if your periods are round the corner. It is suggested you drop one or two in your bag for safety or in case of emergency.
8. Use two-in-one products
Pack as many two-in-one or three-in-one products so you can save up some space. With many mineral powders and other cosmetics, you can use one product for eyes, lips and cheeks. For bath and body, consider a shower gel that also doubles in volume, as a shampoo does. Or just forgo the haircare products and use those supplied by the hotel where you stay.
9. Take advantages of samples
The makeup counters at your local departmental store will readily handout free or very low-cost sample trial sizes of cosmetics. These are perfect for traveling on short trips. The small containers will take up very little space in your bag. Small always does wonders, so the same rule applies here. This will be like making the maximum use of the seemed-to-be-useless products.
10. Slip it in your shoes
If you are carrying breakable bottles of perfume and other makeup, place them in your socks and tuck them inside your shoes in your suitcase. Many people overlook the extra space inside shoes when packing. Carrying multifunctional items and avoiding the curse of too many bags becomes cost-effective and you can avoid paying those ridiculous fees for overweight baggage.
